🌿 Step into Stillness: Sol Hot Yoga Moving Meditation

🌿 In a world that pushes us to change what we are, stillness can feel like a luxury and out of reach. There’s always something demanding our attention—emails, deadlines, errands. We tell ourselves there’s not enough time. Or we step onto the mat and wonder if we measure up—to some imagined standard of strength, flexibility, or calm.

Patañjali begins the Yoga Sutras (1.2-1.3):
Yoga is the quieting of the fluctuations of the mind.
Then, the seer abides in their own true nature.

When the mind rests, awareness shines. Stillness is not empty—it is luminous, whole, alive.

But how do we move toward this?

Patañjali offers a way (II.11):
The fluctuations are stilled through meditation.

Meditation is not an addition to yoga—it is the very practice that draws the mind inward, into its own depth of silence.  Sol Hot Yoga is a moving meditation, with our minds fixed on an intention aligned with our pure awareness.

Patañjali explains this as eka-gratā — single-pointedness of attention (III.11-III.12):
When distractions fade and one-pointedness rises, the mind transforms toward concentration.
When stillness and one-pointedness flow evenly, the mind becomes steady like a flame sheltered from the wind.

Our one-pointedness opens the door to our distinction between reality and illusion.

(III.34): When the object of meditation has served its purpose, only the essence remains, and the mind no longer clings to the object.
(IV.25): For the one who sees clearly the distinction between seer and seen, the search for fulfillment outside ceases.

Eckhart Tolle calls this The Power of Now. He writes:

“The moment you start watching the thinker, a higher level of consciousness becomes activated. You then realize that you are not the voice—the thinker—but the one who is aware of it.”

👉 The practice begins with one-pointed focus (breath, mantra, intention, presence).
✨ Stillness inspires because it reveals clarity.

👉 Through steady practice, the mind develops distinction — the witness observes the fluctuations.
✨ Stillness heals because it unbinds what is real in us.

👉 Once distinction is perfected — the fluctuations dissolve and pure awareness rests in stillness.
✨ Stillness liberates because it shows us we were never bound.

As you step onto your mat this weekend, remember: stillness cannot be forced. It unfolds on its own—when the breath gathers, when meditation steadies, when the heart opens.  When we unclinch the fist and release the tension, then our purest nature emerges — loving-kindness, empathy, shared joy, and equanimity.  These qualities are always here, accessible in the present.  Our purpose is not to seek for them — ours is to remove the barriers to them allow them to emerge.

🌸 In the stillness of Sol Hot Yoga Studio, your practice inspires energy in motion, the heat dissolves the tension, and the shared joy in the room allows these qualities to emerge.  You are more than enough.

It’s not a luxury — it is our purpose.

Retreat from the grind.  Step into stillness.
